I just bought an '02 Tahoe LT and everything is good except the audio. The larger front left door speaker is not working at all and the rear 8" sub flutters w/ bass so it needs replacing. I assume that one of the fronts is a tweeter but what is the other speaker - a woofer, mid-range, 2 or 3-way? I'm really just wanting decent sound - as good or better than OEM. If anyone has any recommendations I'd appreciate them. Thanks.

Based on your budget, probably recommend decent door speakers and disconnect the crappy factory sub and rear tweeters (these are useless once you get better speakers). Really just depends on how much you want to spend and your install skills. Stick with the name brands.

Its not a matter of money - I just want something that sounds OK w/ good bass. I want upgraded factory replacement - I have the skills but not the time, patience, or inclination for drilling, cutting, wiring, etc.

"decent door speakers"

The one that's out is the larger front door speaker - but what is it? I.e. there's already a tweeter (I assume) in the door so do I want another one?

Don't run a sub at all? Why not just replace it?

I was looking at a BOSS CX8 sub and Rockford R165X3 Primes in front.

Infinity makes really good speakers that sounds great, as far as the factory sub, I would replace it with a small mounting depth sub, Rockford makes a good one

Not sure how much bass is enough for you. All I'm saying is that for the time, effort, and money, replacing that 8" sub may not be worth it. RF is quality gear. 6.5 is standard for the doors. Some brands may have a 6 3/4. Be aware of the depth. Good luck.

The components that work well in the truck are alpine, polk audio, and kicker for your everyday use. The subs that work well come from Kicker, Pioneer, and CT sounds. All good upgrades and with an amp may cost you about $500 total. complete sound upgrade for sure though.

I've got kicker components in all four doors and it can play some nice low notes if i don't turn the volume and HU amp too high. For the sub, unless you're wanting all your cargo space, I'd just get a small box and sub setup.
