Started my audio build today.
Got a Kenwood 7015 touchscreen DVD player for free

Will be installing JL Audio components Front and Rear powered by a Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp (for now - its a POS but it works)

In the back will be a JL Audio 10W1 in a Stealthbox from my old GMC 2500 extended cab (its all I have for now - Should be better than nothing) powered by a JL 250/1 amp (looking for a cheap 500/1 or 1000/1 and maybe a 12W6 in a wedge)

Once I have more money I will be buying sound deadener for everything but that crap is expensive and my wife wants her car done first.

See pictures below. Pay no attention to the date stamp - camera eats batteries and I get tired of resetting it.

I started tearing down yesterday - Removed seats truck nuts with a metric socket - thanks groundscr8pr and a few others who let me know I didn't need the proper socket.

I fit the DVD player into the dash - this took some time - Metra apparently only makes one kit and I didn't know exactly what parts to use - so I would try one thing and have to mount the radio then push on the dash trim then take it all apart again to change it.

For power I found a hot wire in the radio harness and spliced into it.
For switched ignition+ I wanted to keep the radio on when I turn the key off until the doors are opened.
There is in fact a blue wire near the fuse panel (thanks TnTahoe) that will achieve this. I found it under the steering column and tapped into it and used a relay for switched + to the radio.
I also tied my aftermarket DVD player in the back to this relay so that it would stay on when I shut of the key.

Installing and wiring door speakers and tweets is next - hopefully installed pics will come tomorrow.

Interior tear down complete

Here is the blue wire - Thanks TnTahoe
When the key is shut off the radio plays for 10 or 15 minutes or until a door is opened

Here is the HU installed. There is a very small gap on one side between the the trim ring and the dash but I can live with it - barely noticeable if you aren't looking. Looks noticeable in the pic because of the flash

More to come soon!

I have just one question, How did you get the HU for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Long story short - a friend didn't need it anymore so he just gave it to me.
It is an old one (about 2005) and it will play dvd's but not cd's. I just want to play my ipod through it anyways.

Its not as nice as a new one would be, but in its day the 7015 was a higher end HU (1300-1400?)

IF a person has the patience to look long and hard enough the deals will come around. Someone somewhere will have something they would like to get off their shelf for nothing or next to it.

How tough was pulling the carpet and everything? I'm getting ready to do the same.

The carpet by itself was no biggie.
It was taking out all the trim pieces trying not to break anything.
The back seats have plastic over every seat bolt and a few of the pieces have screws with torx heads.
This kind of crap slows me down alot.
Also the center console took me a little while to figure out where all the little screws and junk were - just for me to figure out I didn't have to take it clear apart.

If I had done it before it would have taken me half the time.

How do you get those pesky plastic covers off of the bolts? I'm assuming you just pry them up but they seem to be stuck pretty good.

I only need to pull my front seats and center console, just enough to get to the middle row where my amp rack will be, so it shouldn't be too bad. I already did the HU, and found out that I now have parasitic drain. So I have to check all of the fuses and see what's killing the battery.

I will try to take pictures of the front seat bolt covers tonight.
There was no prying on the front ones.
Only on a couple of the 2nd row seat bolt where they have those thin washers that grab the bolt head

who are the monitors in the headrests for? If its for kids I would say being able to play seperate dvds would be key.

Question for you? did you get the harness to keep door chime, onstar and steering wheel controls?

Update:
Having a little trouble with me head unit.
Getting some very serious whine without starting the engine.
Speakers pop when I turn the key off.
Installed new ground on amps to hole drilled in floor instead of To the seat.
Shortened ground on HU to directly behind it.

Whine gets much quieter when I ground the RCAs.
Alternator whine is louder than I have heard when I start the engine.

I hooked up a single din cd player I had sitting on a shelf and got none of the wine or alternator noise.

I'm beginning to think I have a internal ground issue in the HU... Anyone have any ideas?
