Hey guys I just recently bought a 2003 Yukon and it seems to have a myriad of problems. The one I'd like to tackle first is this ticking/knocking noise. It sounds like a bad bearing to me. Once I get the truck on the highway it will go away for awhile then comes back.

It sounds like a main bearing or something bad but it wouldn't go away if that was the case right? Let me know what you guys think!

Heres a video of me with the car stopped

Heres a video of me driving (its a bit more difficult to hear)

Ya I believe its the 5.3 and it has 126k. My oil pressure gauge reads 80 all the time. I've heard they are really faulty. The oil level on the dipstick is fine.

My 02 5.3 has the normal piston slap on cold start that goes away. The 80 psi all the time is not right. May have a sender that is bad and when you replace it attach an oil pressure gauge and get a cold start reading, warm engine reading, idle reading and rev engine reading. Normal warm idle reading is usually around 40-50 psi and then goes over 60 psi when revved and can get even higher if floor it. What oil and weight? The noise you hear may also not even be from inside the engine. May be something like a belt or tensioner/idler pulley assemblies, alternator, injector pulse noise. Didn't listen to your recordings. I guess I should and get back to you.

I just listened to it. Sounds like my second set of guesses. Something with the belt, alternator, power steering, tensioner, idler pulley assemblies. Have you checked the service engine systems light? Codes? Likely will say something about the constant 80 psi oil reading.

Get a mechanics stethoscope and listen for that noise. They are inexpensive. get a code reader, also.

First thing I hear is you're Power steering pump either it low on fluid old fluid or pump going bad.

My 01 has and exhaust leak when cold after a couple minutes the exhaust expands because getting hot then no more leak.

I fix latter it not that bad yet to worry about it 159K on the motor.
