Started a project for a buddy of mine, he has a 2004 Silverado, but the wiring should be across the board for GMFSs...
His vehicle was not originally equipped with Home Link, but he does have an overhead console same size shape and design as the ones equipped, just without the button module. So, in a junk yard raid we got a hold of the exact overhead unit with Home link (avalanche donor), less than $10. Now we are trying to wire it up, obviously his truck does not have a feed for all the power, signals and grounds needed for adding home link, however, I was wondering, I saw someone posted a while back where they wired using/splicing the existing leads to make it work while the overhead map light was on... unfortunately it's a super old post with no current responses... Posting pictures below, hoping someone has done this or can shine an idea or light on it, or at the very least provide a schematic for the home link equipped models... that would be HUGE! thanks in advance, wish us luck!

I'm just curious , is there some other kind of module or transmitter that the homelink uses or needs to work? Or is everything there ?

From what I've gathered... that's it! Just like a garage remote (hard wired) no module or antenna or anything...

My other suggestion was to use this 2 wire model home link from a 98 Deville.... but obviously it would be way better and cleaner if we could figure out the direct swap overhead...
No one has a schematic? Sorry... dumb firefighter here, need help! Bah!

Are you able to test any of the wires in the existing plug? I would think there would be an existing 12V constant in one of them. There should be online schematics for it as well.

Good call on the testing, if the truck were mine and here at my place more I'd put more effort (work) in, was hoping someone had done it on here... I have yet to find a good solid schematic online either... hopefully I can get him over here w it for a couple hours to figure it out...

the wires are not there. I don't know the schematics off hand, but it goes to the plugs n the box where you plug in the trailer brake control. Do a google search, and you will find it. In my 06 sierra I just ran the orange wire to switched ignition on the driver's side fuse box. This way a thief can't break in and open your garage door. I also hooked up the back lights to switch ignition. Obviously the lights are always on when the truck in on, but you only see them in the night. I did this 8 years ago and the back lights still work.
