Just bought an AWD Tahoe with stabilitrak, wanted the 4x4 but got a good deal. This will be driven a lot on snow packed roads quite often, so I am trying to get some info on the traction control systems before I use it. In my 4x4 yukon, I rarely switched out of 2wd even on snowpacked roads, only when i was "breaking trail" on a road that hadn't been plowed yet and even then I never got stuck so I'm sure the AWD will get me anywhere I need to go. Plus I've heard the AWD system on these models is pretty decent where as the 2007+ ones are questionable. I am not used to driving with traction control or any form of computerized "help" so I am afraid it may do more bad than good when the stabilitrak does engage when I am manually correcting a slide out or slip. How do I completely disable all forms of traction control/stabilitrak? I also enjoy wide open, snow covered fields and parking lots to release my inner ken block and don't want/can't have any computerized nonsense intervening on my fun...

Also, what kind of mileage should I be expecting? My tired 02 yukon is averaging 14.3ish with a consistent balance between hwy and city, hoping for the same or better.

naw i looked at a hoe with awd and put it down because of maininance issues compared to selectable 4wd plus saving on gas in 2wd is a plus.

I looked at one of these a while back too and from what I could gather the mileage was more dependent on the rear gear than the AWD. One other thing I found out is regularly servicing the front diff on the AWD version is important as it's ******* the carrier bearings.
