I have an 05 tahoe with the touchscreen/NAV system. I had bought it used, and at the time, the seller did not have the NAV disk on hand. I went and spent the large sum of money to a current NAV disk, only to get the CD/DVD error when I inserted it.
I grabbed an Audio CD (two actually) and those both worked OK. I had a replacement Nav DVD sent to me, and 1 of 10 times I loaded it, it worked. That 10th time, it loaded, updated the software in the head-unit and then restarted. It has not read the Map DVD since. It throws the disk dirty/damaged error on the screen.. Audio CD still works OK.
Seller finally tracked down the ORIGINAL Nav DVD and I tried that tonight. Read error on that as well.
Any suggestions to try? I've shot it full of air to try and clear out any dust, used a cleaning CD in the head unit and ensured that my map disks are clean and free of prints/scratches.
I do not need to have any comments of 'go aftermarket' - I want the dash to remain factory, period. I'm aware I could dig around on eBay for a used unit, or spend a few hundred bucks from a dealer.
Has anyone had an issue like this, with a home remedy? I have no problems pulling the unit, and going thru it on my workbench, car audio is not a new thing to me (This is actually only my second vehicle I haven't futzed with seriously, besides adding the US-SPEC iPod gizmo)
I would have thought a dirty eye would render both DVD and CD usage a fail, but I'm a bit perplexed since it plays audio just fine, and I got a solid read ONCE with the DVD map disk, enough to successfully load and update the map software in the head-unit.
Thanks in advance.
