Had to redeem myself for not one but two paint mishaps over the past couple weeks. Decided to paint my GM accessories smoked window vent visors which i dearly miss after near record summer of days where it did nothing but rain:banghead:
Was looking at in-channel visors for a a smoother look but I already had these and they're a quality product and i love the way ptm visors look. In-channel visors don't look as good painted imo

Taped off the back side and only painted the outside. I didn't feel like it was necessary and wanted to see how it looked and if I could see through it out of curiosity.

Wet sanded with 600 grit (i know a little harsh but its fine) 3 coats of Duplicolor perfect match indigo blue metallic and 2 coats of duplicolor perfect match clear coat. Same procedure as my escalade rack caps that I painted. Less than $20 to paint all four isn't bad.

I let these guys sit for a few days and cure before I wet sand with 2000 and then polish. Then stick em back on.
Success!:ehcapt:20171015_025740.jpg 20171015_025721.jpg 20171015_025702.jpg 20171015_025649.jpg 20171015_025656.jpg

Wet sanded 2000. Followed by polish and wax/sealer.

Removed all leftover previous double sided tape and added new. The $8 wasn't enough at 60" long , even split the 1" in half to make 1/2" strips. Covered 3 out of 4 vents. So I went back and bought the $21 roll at 400" long. Equals to 6 of those $8 roll,...lost with the math yet? Lol. Have left over tape for other projects , lots left over..

Thanks y'all. So come to find out the denatured alcohol was soaking into the sanded areas before paint. That's why the tails and vents came out like $H*T . So this time around I went back to the old school way and just used dish soap and water and everything laid down perfect. Which means I didn't lose my beast spray can skills, it was just a step that I added.
So now I'm motivated to paint more:buffer:

Funny you mention denatured alcohol. It usually dries clean, but sometimes it creates an issue when it reacts or softens the surface it is meant to be cleaning.

Hence your soft and hazy non-beast painted parts originally. Have experienced this as well. Finished product winner.
