First off, I am EXTREAMLY NEW to these vehicles. I just got a SMOKIN deal on my 06 and I already love it!!! It has a few problems but with the help of this forum, I think I can solve them all.

One thing I know I want to do is upgreade the stereo system. It is the Bose, but... 1. I don't need the tape deck. 2. It doesn't have an iPOD jack (yes, I read the tech tip on how to hook one into the XM receiver). 3. If I have the iPOD jack, and the XM, and one CD player, why do I need the 6 disc changer? 4. Is there an aftermarket deck (Head Unit) that is 2 DIN and has XMSIRIUS, CD, DVD, iPOD, & Bluetooth, but doesn't have NAV? I live in Montana, I know where I am going and I have a smartphone if I don't. 5. IF I remove the 6 disc changer, is there an OEM "cubby hole" or some kind of organizer I can put in its place? What is in that slot for the rigs that didn't get the 6 disc chngr? 6. As it sits now, bone stock, do I have to subscribe to Onstar to use the Bluetooth???

Pics ALWAYS help.

Great Forum
Thanks.

Well lets see what I can answer here.... You don't need the CD changer if you have all those other options, so if you want to ditch it, then do it. I do believe there are aftermarket radios that have all of that and don't have NAV. Some of them have NAV as an option. Check Crutchfield.com, they have a lot of products. There is not an OEM cubby if you remove the CD changer.

Thanks for the response. So what you are telling me is that EVERY Yukon/Tahoe/Escalade produced in 2006 had a 1 DIN 6 disc CD Changer in the console under the dash?

a standard din size pocket should work fine, check with a local car audio shop and ask them for one to check sizing. you will have to make up some brackets to hold it in place, but it should do the trick. the hole in the trim panel is the size of a single din raido (i have a single disk cd player in mine as a slave to my navigation head unit)
