I found a low miles ly6 and 6l80 combo for a great price. My tahoe is 2wd the truck is 4wd will that trans still work? Any input as to rather the 6l80 is worth it?

6l80 is an awesome trans, can easily handle 600hp with just a good tune and the gear ratios are fantastic IMO. But I have no idea if the 4wd trans will work or what else you may have to do to get it to work correctly.

Have you swapped in a 6? I was going to just do 4.30 gears but I'd like to have the extra gears since the Tahoe hits the highway for 100 mi a day

How would you plan on handling the serious electronic control changes needed to adapt the 6L80 into your chassis? Unless someone makes a stand alone controller for the 6L80 now, that's going to be a serious challenge.

Definitely open to input I was under the impression this had been done before. Is there a better option for a trans to handle the power and trq? I plan to run the 5.3 heads on the ly6 for better low and mid range and what they call the sloppy stg 2 cam. My understanding is this set up should be somewhere in the 500/500 range at the crank. I've heard many horror stories about the 4l60 when it comes to power but I'm open to building it and throwing in gears

Since you are already serious to the point of swapping and engine & trans ... why not just sell your tahoe and get a Yukon Denali or Escalade that already has the 6L80 to start. You could also get an AWD version of one of those, so you are not just spinning your tires with that 500 hp.

My tahoe is in great shape low miles on the body and paid off. And I like doing things the hard way lol.

4L60E built correctly will handle that power... And it would be cheaper than
doing all the "swap" things that you'll need to do...
The swap would not just be electronics.. It would be driveshaft, trans mounts,
trans cooler lines, etc ... you get the idea. They are totally different trans's

PATC makes a good 4l60E - their top one is rated for 1000hp.. You would not need
that one
