07 Tahoe rear brake caliper rattles

Hey guys,

I've been trying to diagnose a rear end rattle in my 07 LTZ for a while now. I've tightened the sway bar and just put new shocks in the rear. Today I got under the truck again and found that i can move my rear brake calipers with just pulling them. They just move slightly, enough to knock on something, this may be the rattle I've been searching for. The two bolts are tight so my question is...

Do the caliper bolts have bushings in them that apply pressure to the bracket, or is a slight movement normal? I've done brakes before on Mustangs and never seen a caliper move but I had to ask...

They're called floating calipers...

The OP hasn't been on here since 2017; don't expect an answer from him/her/them/it.

Rotational movement (like the wheel rotates) is not normal; but from left to right (as in driver's side to pass. side) is normal and as designed, and that's the floating part.

Are your brake shoes rotating in the hardware that is supposed to hold the shoes in the brackets? Host a video of what you're seeing on YouTube, etc. and post the link here so we can see what's going on.

Yeah I didn’t look at the date.I have a rattle that’s driving me crazy in the back of my 07 yukon.I’ve looked everywhere and put felt tape under just about everything

Loose shock absorber, sway bar bushings worn, sway bar links worn or left the building. Jack loose in storage bin. Spare tire loose and/or deflated. Just a few suggestions. Does it happen going down a smooth road, or do you have to hit a bump for it to rattle? Inside the cabin or out?

I looked at all that.sounds like some sort of plastic.Low or high speed doesn’t matter.Driving me crazy.

I had something like that (not plastic) happen in the last gen Tahoe - my buddy sat in the back with the hatch glass open trying to listen for the source. Try having someone else drive around while you play detective listening for the source of your noise.
