My Throttle position sensor is bad, so I would like to change out the throttle body by myself which I can handle, I think. Anyhow I need to change the throttle body and want to know a few things.
1. Exactly where is the throttle body located? The older models have in in the front but heard it's near the cabin of the car.
2. Do I need to purchase a spacer needed for installation?
3. What are the basic steps for installation.
I looked on GMPARTSDIRECT.com and found one for $141. seems pretty reasonable since the dealer wanted $275.
Any help would be awesome.

Are you talking about changing the SENSOR or the TB itself? They're two different things, and it sounds like you're using the terms interchangeably.

The sensor is just a plastic/electronic piece that's in-line with the intake tubing. Pre-'09 they're closer to the TB, and '09 and later they're closer to the filter (I think I have that right). It's just two torx screws holding it in place (and has a wire harness attached to it).

The TB is metal piece mounted to the intake at the end of the induction tubing. I think there are four bolts holding that in place.

Either should be really easy for you to replace.

From what I have read the sensor is built into the throttle body since it is now computer run and I have to change the whole body.

i'm thinking that is correct. I had to change my complete tb on my 09 silverado back when i had it. The sensor was bad but in order to fix the problem, i had to change the whole tb. So what you rthinking sounds pretty much right to me.

I see what you're saying. And now that I think about it more clearly, I was thinking you were talking about the mass air sensor, which is what I was describing.

Still, TB should be no big issue to change out yourself.

Kirk, I need your hlp!

Im having the same problem as you had on another post, started out as if I wasn't releasing the gas while slowing to a stop but was manageable. Now its starting the bucking etc.

Someone suggested the idle air control valve which I have not tried.

Did you solve your problem? If so how?

BTW mine is a 2000 Limited 5.7 but seems to be the same problem.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks
Ron

1. The throttle body is located in the front of the engine, you have to remove the air intake duct, then you disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle body, in order to disconnect the electrical connector, you have to pull out the grey lock, then depress the release tab and pull of the connector. You'll see 4 screws that you need to remove, they are 10mm, remove them and voila, out comes your throttle body, inspect the throttle body's o-ring, if it needs replacing, replace it.
2. No spacer needed.
3. Installation is the opposite, make sure you don't forget the o-ring in case you replaced it, and torque the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in)

Good Luck
