If it weren’t for slinging oil everywhere our old rigs would probably be rusted out by now right?

Yup I was just under there this weekend changing the oil and filter. Not one spot of rust anywhere on the floor panels and rockers. Definitely a unicorn for a NE truck. Got to keep her going no matter what. She's worth it.

I assume that the OP has not yet taken off those covers and inspected the inside caverns with a good flashlight or visual scope for traces of fluid. To me, that would be the next step.

As indicated above, those covers represent a gravity low point, and fluids outside the engine/transmission will most likely find their way to these covers, before dripping to the ground.
