08 denali, Power liftgate problems NEED HELP

my 08 denali, the power liftgate just stopped working yesterday. Yes the button on the dash is on. when you hit the buttons i hear the lock mech. working but it wont lift i just hear a slight clunk. When i open it manually and get it goes to the top, when i hit the close button the lights flash it makes noise and i hear it clunk again and it wont go down. It looks like it wants to but only makes it down about a 1/4 inch and it clunks. Yesterday morning the gate worked perfect, motor seemed quiet and smooth no issues at all so im assuming its probally not the motor, Any thoughts?

I did a quickl search and turned up plenty of threads. not sure if the problem/fix is in one, but here's a good start.

BTW, this forum as well as others are a little dead on the weekends due to normal/family life.

had same issue on my 2008, replaced latch and it fixed it.

I have the same problem, I replaced the gear/clutch part but to no avail. when you hit the button on the rear, it unlocks and makes a bunch of noises from inside the tailgate that sound like gears moving but the hatch doesnt move. also wont close except manually.
