yes thats correct

Sounds like you came across an inexperienced dealership. They can absolutely reprogram the OS on the PCM to accept the 4L80. Alternatively, you could pull the PCM and send it to HPTuners (www.hptuners.com).

I've done a bit of research on this as I plan to do the same thing. With that said, I have 37's with 4.88's. 140k on the 4L60 and running strong. Not sure why you are blowing through transmissions. But nonetheless, it is irrelevant as you have already changed it.

I would call GM dealerships until you find one who knows what they are talking about.

Lastly, there is one more option, which wouldn't be at the top of my list but it will get it going;

visit http://www.tciauto.com/tc/ez-tcutm-...t-gm-4l60-4l65-4l70-4l80-and-4l85e-to-09html/

This is a 600 dollar fix but if you can't get anyone else to program the PCM, this will do it.

Hope this helps

ok i just talked to the main transmission dude at the dealership, he said i dont have 2 plugs that would go in the top of the 80 and that i would have to have someone program a computer for me to bypass those and accept the 80. im moving states in a week so prob just gonna sell it for whatever i can get and move on, too much time and money sunk into this pos.. thanks!!

unknown at this time.
you need to rewire the tranny connector and reprogram the pcm for the 4l80. if in limp mode i think it is just a power loss issue in the wiring. not sure what two plugs on 4l80e he was referring to.

Does anyone know of a write up on doing this to a 96? I'm interested. I always thought it was on 98 and up models for some reason.
