17 Tahoe makes squeaky suspension noises

Hey all!

New to this forum - over a thousand posts on ClubLexus though.

Our first chevy ever - a 17' Tahoe LT.

It's a pretty sweet ride. But I've noticed after a few months of ownership and about 5k miles that there is a squeaking noise in the suspension when going over bumps. It's especially noticeable at low speeds, hitting potholes and speed bumps. It kind of sounds like an old mattress or box spring, or like the comedic renditions of people getting it on in the bedroom.

Is this a common problem facing these vehicles? I'm thinking of bringing it to the dealer, but haven't found the time nor need to just yet.

Same problem with a 2015i Yukon Denali. Sounds like left front suspension. Dealer lubed the sway bar bushings which did not help. If someone has located and solved this problem, sure would like to know.

Check the rear parking brake cables. Believe it or not they can squeak when the rear suspension moves up and down. There is a post on spraying some lube on them to help.

I had this same exact issue in a Merc C400 I had prior to the Tahoe. Dealership was able to resolve it so I'll have to see if I can locate the paperwork on it.

Regarding the parking brake cables - the dealer did notice the rubbing so used zip ties to secure them from rubbing. But I've still got the squeaking.

I have a 2016 Tahoe and had the exact same problem a few months ago. The first dealer I went to told me "its normal and all Tahoes do it." That wasn't acceptable. I was not happy that a 70k vehicle squeaks and the dealer simply dismissed it. I even contacted GM, but did not get far. I decided to take my Tahoe to another dealer. Luckily this time I had a service advisor that took the time to reproduce the noise and carefully identify the source of the problem. They kept my Tahoe for a couple of days and when I got it back, the noise was gone!

According to the repair order they replaced a "jounce bumper". GM is actually aware of this because a technical service bulletin (PIT5477A) was listed in the repair details. So obviously there is a known issue. I would mention this TSB number to your dealer and insist they perform the associated repair.

Thanks for the TSB info - gave it to my dealer and he is ordering the parts to see if this fixes my squeak. I'll post in a couple weeks after they give it a try.

I had the same problem on my 2007 tahoe. I replaced the shock absorbers thinking that this would solved the problem. The noise persisted. At the end found out that the noise came from

Noise disappeared by applying lube to the end of the drive shaft that connects to the transmission. You will need to dismount the drive shaft for this.

Just had this done. Sound was so annoying over bumps and when getting out of the truck. They apparently slightly rerouted the cable to not rub against the link.
