I have a 1996 chevy tahoe that my 4wd recently stoped working, When i press 4hi nothing happens other then a click from the tccm, if i activate 4low it makes a big kind of grinding clunk. i have already changed tccm front accuator and checked wiring diagrams, i also took out the transfer case motor and bench tested it and all seemed to be working. any help with this would be great. oh also when i did the self diag i got code 2

Do the lights on the push buttons go solid on after making a selection? Do you have the tranny in neutral when doing 4lo? That one does clunk when going into it. DTC 2 indicates an encoder fault. That means the tccm is is not seeing the encoder give the proper feedback response when it activates a mode. Assuming all wiring is good the encoder on the shift motor may be damaged some how.

ok update, i replaced transfer case motor and it is still not working, there are no light on the 4wd swithch, if i put it in neutral and push 4low it will engage but no other selection will work. if i press 4 hi it will blink a few times then all the lights will come on the switch, i hear the clicking from the tccm but it will not do anything. i do not have a scan tool to access the tccm. i did find some bad wiring that i repaired but stil have not found the real problem. not sure where to go from here... any suggestions would be great.

Find a used switch assembly to try. And review your wire repairs. Ensure the power inputs to the tccm are active when they should be as well.
