1996 Tahoe 5.7 4WD Rev limit

Does anybody know what's the max RPM the engine will reach before the governor / rev limiter kicks in?

1996 Tahoe 5.7 Vortec 4WD would have that, right? So, I shouldn't be afraid of pressing the throttle pedal all the way when testing sensors etc?

if your all stock it should just shift at 5600 ish. unless the trannys shot it could go past 6000 and then it might just shut down on ya.

Ok, tried it today. Rev limiter kicks in around ~5600 RPM. ...and it sounds really sexy

The L31 was the last of the Gen I Chevy small blocks. Typically, all their horsepower was in by 4600 rpms and their peak torque was in by 2800 rpms. They were the last of the low rpm, high torque motors. No real need to spin them past 5000-5200 rpms when they peak at 4400-4600.

I wouldnt know about rpm limiter,..but i do know that my 96' 2500 5.7 had a top speed cut-off, i was coming home from work one day and on a long straight i pinned it,.. I mean i "sent it ". Lol,..got her up to 120ish when it was all systems down!... Everything literally shut down,..it scared the shit outta me, i thought i blew the motor,..then when she slowed down to around 55 it lit back up and all functions came back to normal..whew, never knew they had that,...good luck trying to run from the cops!! ...they woulda had me.

They must have upped it! I remember my dad and I on our way to one of my baseball games, and being late. He pinned it passing cars on a long stretch, hit 100 and cut out. He was so pissed that he called Chevy and complained hahahahaha

Factory fuel cut-off is 98mph...comes back on at 95. Scared me the first time I did it, too... thought truck was caput.
I've since had the factory speed limiter raised (computer tune)

As stated earlier, the factory black-box rev-limit is ~5600-5800, but no real need to go that far for TQ/HQ peak.
