I have a 1996 Tahoe with a 99 Tahoe tranmission and it seems to shift out great until its been drove for 30 miles or so and then it starts to shift a lot harder. Any Ideas??

:welcome: I think the shift tables and pressures in the 1996 ROM are different from the 1999 ROM because of upgrades to the tranny parts. That or you are suffering from the valve body issue that caused a similar symptom.

Ok not sure I understand what you mean by ROM. What steps should I take to try and take care of the hard shift. It just doesn't make since that I can drive 15 minutes to work and don't have any trouble until I travel a longer distance. Thanks for all the info!

I personally think it is best to take it to a tranny shop to properly diagnose and maybe reset the shift adaption for the tranny as I can not plug into your system over the net. It may be areal simple fix.

the only other thing that comes to mind is something is agoof with the TPS sensor. When engine is hot. It is like a throttle valve signal used on older trannies.

This info might help! Today when it started doing it I pulled over and turned the Tahoe off for about 10 seconds then started it back up and it shifted out great just like it should. I just thought this might mean something to someone as far as troubleshooting goes. Thanks for the help!

then that would probably be pcm related or the perhaps the ignition switch which provided power to the tranny solenoids is acting up. when it does it again measure the voltage on tranny fuse and compare to other switched ones like the accessory feed. before you shut it down.

wow ... my truck does the exact same thing ...
drives fine for about 10 or 15 minutes then starts shifting hard between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd ...
I can turn the truck off for about 5 or 6 seconds then restart it and the problem is gone for another 10-15 minutes ...
I also notice that when going down the highway and the problem us occuring the engine makes a little more noise ...
I know this problem has been around for a long time ...
someone has to know the solution!?!?

You should scan for codes after it happens but before shutting off engine. There are oldest that do not trigger a light. A screwy tps can cause those problems too it can have thermal issues where it messes up as the heat around it increases.

Its a BAD Torque Converter I had the same issue in my yukon and the exact same "fix" would work by shutting the truck off and restarting , I had it on my stock trans and when I had the trans rebuilt It did the same thing I went back to the shop they Swapped out the TC and Bam Fixed haven't had it since
