I have a 1996 gmc yukon 2 door and my transmission needs replaced. I found one from a 98 suburban that has all ready been rebuilt. My question is will I be able to use the 98 tranny in my 96? I've been told yes and no by people I've asked. I got a quote for mine to be fixed it was $2,700 and the 98 that's all ready rebuilt is $1,200. Any technical info will help thanks.

The input shaft diameters may be different between 1993-1997 and 1998+ so compare the input shafts between the two units. Otherwise the case internals, valve bodies and electronics are the same. You may just need to transition to a 98+ torque converter due to the different input shaft diameters if it is different than your 96 4l60e.
I know the F body 4l60Es were different between 96 and 98 but the trucks may not have changed until the introduction of the gen 3 LS based truck engines in 2000.

the early had the 290mm input where the later went with the 300mm. to compensate for the increase, the bell housing is 3/4" longer.
