Hi I am in the process of buying a 2 Door Tahoe and I have narrowed it down to a 98 or 99 but I am confused on what the packages that these trucks came in.

I saw models that has the "sport" sticker on the pillar behind the doors and I also came across 99's that have Z71 sticker on the rear quarter panel. I tried searching online but so far have found no specific information on these packages.

Can someone please share some insight as to what these packages actually means ( what actual components they contain/upgrade ) ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

My understanding is the "Sport" is more about trim and features and the Z71 is more about stiff shocks and suspension.

I think the sport came with the wheel farings and leather seats, etc. If you like a rough ride, Z71 is the way to go. :)

z71 usually means stiffer shocks, skip plates, 4wd, and prob leather and stuff like that, and the Sport is with the argent bumpers and side moldings but i think it also is 4wd, stiffer shocks and skid plates....not really sure but sport is more appearance i think...
Hope this helps...i had a 98 2-door 4wd(not z71 or sport)and it had skid plates, so im not sure what the exact difference is....
so pretty much after all this typing i dont think i helped much LOL...

From my understanding, Z71 is just an option code and not a package or anything.

Z71 option gave you the stiffer shocks, skid plate, 4wd, tow package, etc etc.

Now the Sport package was available to 2door 4wd models, either the LS or LT. Which gave you:
• Sport Two-Tone paint
• Dark argent-color front and rear bumpers, uplevel grille and wheel-opening flares
• Black front air dam and mirrors.

So you could have the Z71 option and the Sport package.

I know what you mean on the color and options!!!! I ran out of time and ended up buying a 4dr but anyway..... My extended cab Z71 came with bigger brakes and different gear ratio in the rear end for towing. I believe it was 11" brake instead of a 10" brake in the rear. The front was also differnet but it's been so long ago that I do not remember exactly what the difference was. I didn't know there was that much of a difference until I went to go do brakes on it and they asked which brakes I had.

2wd and 2doors came with 10' drums

4 doors came with 11"

I have a 99 Sport/Z71 2 Door. The Z71 has the stiffer shocks, not that bad of a ride though, skid plate, heavier rear end for towing, etc. I also have 4wd, leather seats, and the rest of the Sport options.
