Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and have a quick question. Wife and I have had 3 tahoes and 2 suburbans so I am not new to the trucks but I am thinking about buying a 1999 2 door and was wondering what are the dimensions of the rear cargo area with the rear seat removed? I am in the process of looking for and building an expedition vehicle and I will not buy a Land Rover or Toyota. The truck I am looking at has a blown engine but the body looks good. I am thinking about setting the body down on a shortened 2500HD with a Duramax and Allison. The 2 Door is not near me or I would measure myself. Thanks in advance for the help.

mine is about 48" across and front to back. atleast that is when the floorpan drops off, if you are counting that, then I can stick a 4x8 sheet of plywood in mine and it sticks out like a foot maybe...

I looked at Duramax conversions but I like the idea of the heavier frame and running gear. I have owned 2 Duramax crewcab 2500HDs and both were great trucks that gave me virtually no problems. I drive my 3rd Duramax - 2007 CC SWB 2500HD -everyday and I love it. I have tinkered quite a bit with the engines and I think it would make a great project. I am no body expert but I think it should be doable. My big worry is the drivetrain length with the Allison but I will cross that hurdle when I get there. I may do a solid axle conversion but I am undecided as of now. I have already purchased a 2006 2500HD that was wrecked in the rear but the frame is straight and the truck runs (bed is trash). I didn't realize there would be interest on here but I will post up pictures or at least a link to the thread over at www.dieselplace.com. Thanks guys.
