Hello

my car needs to be smog before June, and i know for sure that my Denali will fail smog.

i heard if my denali fail, smog government will help pay up to $500 to repair the problem.

anyone have done this?

I don't think i will qualify

My questions:

Can i Purchase 1 California approve Cat and connect both exhaust to it and pass smog. or does it need Two?

unknown at this time.
never tried the program before. if it must be replaced replace the whole assembly. magnaflow sells cali compliant high flow system assemblies for about $550. non cali compliant are about $290.

Is your check engine light on? If not why you think it will fail?

Yeah I'm doing same thing. Either pick up magnaflow piece or 2 universal magnaflow cats (90$ a piece from rockauto) and get a shop to cut and weld them in or do it yourself. I bought a 99 hoe and am probably going to take the two universals I bought and slice in.

If your truck is like mine you should have 2 converters. I have a Tahoe Limited with the 5.7. Do you have the part to fool the O2 sensors on there, if so just get some old ones from the junk yard and gut them out and just place those in there for show.

You can't buy used catalytic converters from the junkyard.

So I just talked with my muffler guy. Turns out when you buy a "CA compliant catalytic converter" its still technically not smog legal. My 99 hoes cat/ypipe setup is a dealer only part. Now I could take some cats and throw then on but if the smog Guy doesn't like he can fail visual inspection even if ot passed test. CA sucks.
