My torque converter is acting up so I may be looking at a new transmission in my near future - getting a misfire code and transmission slip code when towing or trying to maintain 75mph on the hwy. The service engine soon light is what is coming on but it goes off after i turn the key off and the hoe sits for a while. My transmission guy, who is a straight shooter, tells me its my torque converter acting up and everyone I have talked to says that there is no point just putting a new torque converter on without rebuilding the trans which brings me to my question...

Can I install a 4l80 transmission in the hoe and will it just bolt right up and work with my current electrical and computer system...??? I'd feel better with the 4l80 trans over the 4l60 trans in the long run. With this truck being my primary vehicle for at least the next 6 mos and since I will towing 5k lbs quite a bit, I would love to put a heavy duty trans in it.

Am I crazy...?

4l80e will bolt up to the 5.7. You will need to relocate the tranny crossmember and get a transfer case that bolted up to a 4l80e cause the spline count is different. Rewiring a bit to the tranny plug and a ecm reprograming is needed as well. You also need to resize the drive shaft. There are a number of posts on the subject.

Thanks.

If there are multiple posts, I haven't found them yet lol. Sounds like a pretty big hassle opposed to another 4l60.
