Just joined the forum and thought I would say what up. I have been wanting a Tahoe forever and finally got one the day after Christmas so I guess you can say I bought myself a nice Christmas gift. I live in Wilmington, NC and was looking around for about 2 years online and local car lots. My Dad lives in Myrtle Beach, SC so I found one at Myrtle Beach Chevrolet went down to test drive a 2004 Tahoe z-71 White but didn't like the drive and it was a lil beat up. While I was on the lot I noticed a 2004 Tahoe LT pewter with 55k miles loaded so I test drove that one and it drove a lot better than the z-71 I thought. Anyway ended up getting the 2004 Tahoe LT with 55k miles 4x4 loaded for $17,000 which compared to what I saw at Wilmington car lots was a major steal. I have had it for almost 2 months now and been happy with it so far gas is a lil high but I expected that and was driving a car so thats understandable. I will be taking it on the beach here shortly and I'm hoping the 4x4 does well out there, any pointers I should know before I get stuck

Don't crank the wheel too much in 4wd because you will blow your power steering.. I read that on this forum and then realized how lucky I am that mine is still intact after all the snow drifting and shit ive done.

The best thing you can do driving on sand is to lower the air pressure in your tires to have a wider footprint. abrupt acceleration and braking will most times get you stuck and if you get stuck never nail the gas trying to get out, you will only dig yourself in deeper making recovery much harder.

I searched and found this info. http://4wheeldrive.about.com/gi/dyn...ers.com/info/tech-corner/reading/sand_dri.htm

Summary-Sand Driving

lower tire pressures to greatly improve traction and reduce track erosion
drive smoothly with gear changes at high revs
ensure wheels are pointing straight ahead when taking off
avoid the soft sand at the base of dunes and gullies
make turns as wide as possible
ONLY travel straight up or down dunes
follow in others tire tracks to drive on compressed ground
avoid braking by coasting to a stop
do not floor the accelerator if you are bogging down
when bogged, try to reverse on your own tracks
thoroughly hose down your vehicle after a beach trip
