From reading some other threads lately, it seems my truck has something odd going on. Its an 04 Yukon XL with NO sunroof and BOSE.

I have rear AC controls in the headliner by the windshield. I also have rear ac controls in the center console where the rear radio control is.

Im thinking that someone swapped out the rear radio controls. Because the AC controls in the console don't do anything....

Sounds like a previous owner swapped them out. You should not have AC controls in the rear of the center console unless you have a sunroof.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question but if there's a sunroof why would there be ac controls in the rear of the console? My 2006 Denali xl has a sunroof but my rear climate control is up in the overhead console in between my sunroof and windshield. The back of my console has rear entertainment panel. Is that different than the non Denali trucks?

Yes, ALL the SUVs have the rear AC control panel above the rear view mirror. But then there should be a second panel that the rear passengers can control while you are driving, if you switch the front panel to the "Rear" setting. Models without a sunroof have a second rear panel on the headliner in the back seat area right about where the dome light should be. On models with a sunroof, (at least every one I have seen) there are some rear AC control buttons in the same panel with the rear audio controls on the back of the center console. Most people don't even realize it because it blends in with the audio controls so well. Take a CLOSER look at yours and double check.

Here is what my 04 Yukon XL SLT has. I do think someone swapped the center console rear controls at some point...

So, Ya, Im an idiot.... I went to get lunch just now, and I realized on the rear ac controls by the windshield, there is a position that says AUX. My brain always took that as AUTO, even though there is a AUTO location right under it. When I turn the knob to AUX, the controls in the center console work....

So, ya.... Don't mind me....

That's crazy I totally thought that the panel on the back of the console was just rear audio. Had no idea it was climate control too haha. Nor did I realize my overhead rear climate had the sux setting that transferred the control to that rear panel. Haha. Learn something new about my truck all the time!
