I use 4 low in the snow and never had a problem....ever....i also use with my plow when i needa little extra push...4wd on ice means nothing... just 2 more wheels to slip..

what are the benefits of a 2 speed transfer case?

The following assumes the single speed transfer case is essentially high range only.

The benefit is that if you have a 2 speed TC the vehicle can be considered an 'off road vehicle'.

A one speed transfer case is about as useful as ***** on a boar. They can be considered more of an on-road 'all wheel drive' inclement weather type vehicle with a one speed TC. As such a 1 spd will most likely have a setting that can be used on dry pavement (meaning it has an inter-axle differential or fluid coupling)

I can't see ANY benefit to a single speed TC. You don't save much weight, and you won't really be able to drive anything but moderate/easy trails and 4wd passes. Unless.......you have an automatic or manual trans with a 9:1 first gear or a continuously variable trans. and even then you'd probably break the transfer case.

You do not want to 'be that guy' with a single speed transfer case.

The two speed transfer case has been the industry standard in off-road capable vehicles since the civilian market was cracked open by Willy's after WWII

It allows low gearing for good crawl ratios off road while not having to equip the vehicle with rear differential gearing that is super high.

any idea if a 2 speed transfer case can be swapped into these newer vehicles? I have seen NNBS guys do it and not have any issues, pretty sure they installed the new TC. added the correct switch, and maybe had to flash the computer..

Sure would enjoy seeing the truck traversing up down and tiptoeing through the creeks on your ranch. Sounds awesome


Need low range for ascending steep gravel/grass hills - not enough grunt to ascend at low speeds w/o LoRange. Literally cannot climb the hills on our ranch without low-range gearing. Nice for tiptoeing through the rocky creeks, as well.
