I just put new Rear brakes in my friends 2000 Tahoe and noticed that the Parking Brake Pads are worn down to the metal on the bottom of that ''Ring" Thingy. Yes they are the Dual piston Disk. I see there is a star adjuster on the top that is not self adjusting because of the way they are worn and the fact that the Parking Brake pedel goes all the way to the floor and still won't hold the truck on a hill. Has anyone had this same problem and is it worth spending the money to replace it with a new Pad Ring. Thanks JT.

Mine where like that.

Hi,
My parking brake shoes where like that when I purchased my truck.
When I did the brake job I did all new shoes/pads, drum/rotors etc on the rear.
It isn't the greatest design to begin with imo...
Even after installing new parking brake shoes and adjusting the clearance with the star washer adjusters, which is very important if you want them to work....
There is a very fine line with the adjustment between burning off the shoe friction material from being too tight and the parking shoes not holding/working at all.
The actual clearance is .026 inch on setup. You can gain some with the cable adjustment but getting the shoes adjusted just right is very important.
In Mass we have to have a parking brake to pass inspection so it really wasn't a choice for me...

Thanks Allan. I kinda figured there was a "Fine Line" in getting them Dialed in. I knew I wasnt the only one with this problem. Wow a parking brake Inspection, we dont even have to do emissions anymore. Thanks for the adjustment specs I will try them. JT

When I bought my truck the e brake didn't work either. shoes were worn down to metal which is weird because the shoes are only used for e brake. I notice that sometimes when I'm parked on a decline and release the e brake pedal, it sticks. So, I think the previous owner drove with the brake engaged.
