2000 to 2006 models worth it?

I'm assuming a 2500 that's been well taken care of with around 150k miles is nothing to worry about?

I can only say a few things been having my 01 2500 xl for a few months just have to say is a tank and not bad as they say in gas mileage. I drove from ca to nj an thought i was going to waste alot on gas and i didn't for the almost 3k mile trip. And this motors are great my father has a 02 avalanche since 66k and now has 250k no major issues except a fuel pump and regular maint of course.

Absolutely love my '05 Yukon XL. Bought it a year and a half ago with 172,000 miles on it. Just rolled over 204,000 yesterday. Only had to replace the water pump and upper control arms so far. Which is to be expected with over 200,000 miles. Brother has a '09 Suburban and says mine feels much more solid. Aunt has an '06 suburban she bought with 86,000 miles on it and she just rolled 260,000. These GMT 800's are great vehicles!

As far as the 2500 goes, the 6.0 and 4L80 are a great combo! I personally don't think you can go wrong with either a 1500 or 2500 if they have both been well maintained.

Do the rockers on these commonly rot away like the Fords? Thankfully my father-in-law is a body mechanic for Chevy so if it wasn't too bad I could probably get him to replace rockers for the cost of materials and some beer.

Makes it a little easier to accept one with a little bit of body rust. My other father-in-law is a ford mechanic. So he made having to worry about Ford mechanical problems easier to deal with!

Rusty rockers are common in the midwest yes. But if I were in the market again, which seems to happen often, I would shop Florida, Texas, Arizona, etc area. Its totally worth it. Trucks from the south are like brand new underneath. And shipping a vehicle is easier and cheaper than you'd think.

I'd have no problem taking a road trip to get one. It would just be a matter of convincing my wife to go with me on the really far ones so I'd have a co-driver

I've had my '01 Yukon Denali since 2013, 40 000 miles so far (total 230 000) Our daily drive, runs great, a few issues but not more than any other vehicle of that age and miles, and far more easy to work on with cheap parts, even here in Sweden (brake rotors, brake lines, front wheel hubs, water pump) doesn't tow heavier than 1600lbs as my licence won't allow it, (could write several pages about our imbecille legislations over here). If you don't care about fuel price I would recommend these fine vehicles to anyone that needs an SUV.

Yes definitely shop around down south. I lucked out and found a 02 Tahoe with 75k mikes on it. The one caviat was that the brake lines had rusted along the frame rail. Was a winter driven vehicle parked in a garage without being washed off. The spray from the roads had done a number on the brake lines. Elsewise, very solid vehicle at a great price.

I'd say replacing rusty brake lines is worth getting a great vehicle.

Now I just have to decide if I want to try to find a 2500 or a Denali. I want the 6.0 but 2500's are a bit harder to find.
