Just turn the key to accessory like you're supposed to do when you don't want the engine running but do want to listen to the radio and operate the windows. In the old days of distributor caps and points, if you turned the key to on without starting the engine, you'd fry the points and the engine wouldn't start afterwards. You're not supposed to turn the key to on without starting the engine. SMH.

when you set the e-brake the lights do not come on when the key is on it's just the way they designed it

It was the dash sensor a biker told me to change it! $13 from the dealer problem solved
