So recently my 01 Tahoe started acting up.. About a week ago I went to the store to get some stuff. When I came out the store and got in the Tahoe I started it up like normal. When I went to put it in reverse there was a delay in it engaging and I thought that was weird but didn't think nothing of it. Well on the way home it completely stop working.. Like the clutch in a manual transmission when it goes out.. So I was able to get home with the help of a tow truck.. The next day I went out to check it out.. I started it the let it warm up and check the transmission fluid.. It's nice and new looking with no burnt smell and the level aw good. So I put it in drive and it worked! For only maybe 2 min then went out like the night before.. So I turned the hoe off and let it sit for maybe and minute and then started it up again.. And once again it work but then went out.. So im trying to find out what the problem is? Is it a bad toque converter or tranny? I can hear a strang noise coming from the trany area but I'm not sure what that could be..

Based on the symptoms you described, that is absolutely a torque converter going out.

I would be scared to death if I saw those metal shavings on the tranny. I never heard that a transmission gave out that immediately some may last a long time with just a delay in engaging gears.
