Hi everyone.

Truck: 2002 Suburban LT 5.3/4x4
Just have a little question about bearing noise. Or maybe something else.

On my truck when I let of the gas and allow truck to decelerate I can hear what I would assume is a front LEFT wheel bearing.

Kind of makes a noise as if half of it is worn. So a speed relative noise for only part of the rotation. A recurring hum.

SO again, I assume its a front wheel bearing.

My question is what else could it be if its NOT the hub assembly.

CV joint? I dont know what else is there that rotates. Could it be an axel seal?

Just looking for thoughts/opinions.

Thanks!!

A wheel bearing is speed sensitive, no matter if you are accelerating or slowing down. The faster you roll, the louder it is gonna be!!

Is your truck 4 wheel drive or All wheel drive?

4 Wheel drive.

I would say the noise is speed sensitive...Just not very pronounced right now.

However I have heard wheel bearings more clearly before on other vehicles.

Jack it up and spin the wheel. Listen for a roaring / dry bearing noise.

Also if you go down a smooth road and turn the wheel back and forth (like you are going through an easy turn) the noise will change since it will be loading and unloading that wheel slightly.

Does this make sense? Easier to explain verbally that typing it.

Easiest and fastest bearing check is to jack up tire put hands at 12 and 6 on the tire and push in and out. When my bearing went I had over a 1/2" of play.
