Hey guys, my gas gauge has been consitently more and more inaccurate. It has gotten to the point where even if im at E, with the low fuel light on, it only take 11 gallons before the pump shuts off. On top of that, the fuel gauge never goes to completaly full, it will only go to 7/8 of a tank. Also, when i am below 1/2 of a tank, the gas gauge will fluctuate depending on how I park (hill, etc) or if i accelerate/ brake hard. The fuel pump/sending unit have less than 1000 miles on them, and this issue needs resolving. Can anybody help?

Was the gas gauge ever accurate after the new pump. If so, might be the stepper motor in the gauge cluster. If not, maybe the sending unit was damaged during install. Most probably the stepper motor, its a very common issue.

Not sure if you have access to a diagnostic computer. If you do it should tell you what the computer sees as far as how much gas you have. This would tell you if its the sending unit or the stepper motor in the cluster. On my truck with a blue tooth dongle/android phone I can see how much fuel the computer reads in percentage.

The other way is to drop the fuel tank and test at the sending unit in ohm's and see if it's within specs.

I have the stock computer, haven't read any code for the gauge.last time they were read for a check engine light the only code was two vacuum leaks, and those went away.

You would have to find the PID for it on Torque. Rev only works for 03-up on the gas gauge. 00-02 will not display the Trans temp, not sure if there is a sensor for the trans temp, if there is you would have to find the right PID, it is not in the pre-programmed list for Torque.

The GM scanner is what I read the voltage from sorry not the BT/Phone combo on my 02.
