My Escalade’s been making this sound when it’s first started up. It’s been getting progressively worse, but goes away at high RPM. I’m thinking it could be a lifter, or maybe flexplate issues?

Really hoping it’s not something more serious. Anyone know what it might be for sure? Oil pressure is rock solid.

Oil pressure shouldn't be solid - it should increase with RPMs and decrease from start to hot engine. What's your pressure?

Have you listened around the engine to hear where it's coming from? You mentioned it only does it when cold? Goes away when hot? Have you checked for exhaust leaks? What about lifters? How many miles?

Mine had a lifter tick but that noise on yours is much different. I wouldn't think it's lifters. Do you have a mechanics stethoscope? That may help isolate where it's coming from. I think I got mine from Harbor Freight. Good luck!

Get the exhaust manifold fixed. It's cracked or bolts are missing it's not lifters I have the clone of your sound . Yes after warms up it's quiet you will hear it both sides louder on one side bolt heads will be missing or try wiggling the bolts you might end up with it in your hand I tell them at the drive in it's a new super cool engine noise sweeping cult Yukon underground... Only guessing .. [emoji106]. [emoji106][emoji16]

Yeah it does up with RPM. Idle it’s a touch over 40. I just meant solid in that it should be ok, it’s not abnormally low from what I can see.

200,000 miles, so it’s got some wear. It’s been lasting longer and longer- the noise only really goes away after longer trips or above 2500 RPM. If I haven’t driven it for a few hours it’s pretty loud.

It sounds like its low and towards the passenger side of the engine.
