Ok so this morning I took the factory sub box out of my yukon xl and looked at the dimensions and realised that a jl 8W7 could fit in a custom made box behind the rear pannel in the factory position, my question is if I want to retain the functionality of the sound controls especialy the bass controller (factory HU) what would I have to do, would I to put in a more powerful 5 channel amp or can I just add one specifically for the new sub?
thank you

X2, hopefully someone will chime in. I have a nice Alpine deck and 4 channel MTX amp I'd like to use to power all the door speakers I'll replace.

The funtionalilty is great 6cd vs. my Alphin deck is what's keeping me from replacing the system. I'd like more power and quality of sound but...

Another thing to consider might be, if replacing the deck, what other functionality is lost?...chimes, steering control ??? Is there a conversion kit for it all?

So Cal
are you sure a 8w7 would fit??? the mounting depth on those are huge, and youll need at least 350-500 rms just for that sub...why not consider a little smaller sub like a 8w3v3

So Cal
for an 8w7 i would have used 3/4"-1" mdf and braced the $hit outta it, not your plywood or whatever that is, i hope you checkee for leaks, and used bracing and tons of caulk etc, just my opinon....

The Scoche "GM2000" harness will retain chimes & full functionality for Bose systems that are NOT "Premium" Bose systems (If you have a Y91, or Y92 on your glovebox sticker, you have "premium bose" and that harness is lke $130, but it does exist. If you don't have either of those codes you're good w/the GM2000, which is $40)

+1 on the MDF!
