Had the shaft seals fixed, but now it seems like the 4WD does not engage (press the 4WD dash button, hear a click and the light is on, but traction feels same as 2WD). Are there any obvious reasons why this could happen? Mechanic forgot to plug in electronic controls? Fuse?
(Driver Side) Easy job.
1. (Mark inner and outer axle)Take axle bolt off and set outer axle aside
2. Slide inner axle off, might be a bit tight but it should slide off or tap it with a brass hammer or something not to hard..(Oh!! make sure to drain the fluid first...)
3. Pop the seal off with a Screw driver
4. Important!!..make sure the new seal goes in flush use a flat metal or something and tap it in.
5. Reverse 2 and 1 for installment..
Both sides of the 4WD drive shaft seals were replaced. The passenger side involves removing the electric accuator in order to pull axle tube, seal, etc. Something is wrong with the accuator engagement. Dash switch works fine; hear a click and light is steady illumination (not flashing). The plug to the accuator is in correctly.
I wish i had an exploded view of the front axle that indicated how the accuator engages the drive shaft. Might indicate how this shop goofed-up. They are supposed to fix it on Monday, but more snow this weekend
