I just bought a 2002 yukon and the tow haul mode won't turn on. The light on the dash doesn't come on or anything. I read that it is common for the wires to break under the steering wheel so I checked and the wires look fine. I also tested them and they are showing voltage when the button is pressed.

I did quite a bit of research and didn't find much information. Seems like 99% of the people out there just have the wires break. I did see some wiring diagrams that show the wires routing to the BCM and then to the PCM but that made my head spin.

I also wasn't sure if a fuse is connected to the tow haul function. Anyone have any other suggesting on tracking this issue down? I don't really have any experience with GM vehicles.

Thanks

Are you sure the T/H mode isn't engaging? Press the button, and see if it shifts at higher RPMs, and less often. If so, you might just have a bulb out in the gauge cluster. That would be my thought since you're saying the wires have voltage and aren't broken.

No I'm positive is doesn't work. Nothing changes, I've tried every scenario from hitting it while driving to hitting it in neutral before driving and park. Nothing makes any difference.

That's weird... I've only seen one example after searching online that wasn't tied to the broken wires near the shifter - a guy said his button failed. Since you said you're getting voltage at the wires when you push the button, I doubt that's your problem.

I don't have any resources handy, but I'm hoping it's just a blown fuse.

Me too, although I have no idea which fuse it could be tied to. Can't find any information on it online either.
