I have a 2003 Yukon XL with the 8.1L engine. The oil pressure guage quit working (stays at 0 in all states at all times except for a small flicker on engine start). GMC replaced the gauge cluster under the SCA, but it still reads 0, so they diagnosed it as the sending unit. They want $300 to replace it. I can find one online for about $50, but can't find where it is located on my 8.1L engine. I've climbed in to the engine compartment several times to try and find it where everyone says it should be, but I'm beginning to think it is not in the same place on this engine as it is on the 6L, etc.

I found what looks like it on the right side of the engine block. It has two wires coming out from the top, but I can't see how to take the electrical cap off.

Can anyone provide any assistance on an 8.1L?

TIA

Finally, someone like me. I have a new to me '02 Yuk XL w/8.1L. Lot's of power. I bought it from a friend back in the summer. Love it, except the fuel mileage.

Sorry, cant help on the sending unit.

Oh, by the way, great forum. I haven't posted much.

Whats up buddy!?

Well, get ready to get cramped and dirty!! The Oil sending unit on your 8.1L is right behind the EGR valve, behind the intake manifold, right close to where the transmission mounts to the engine block. You might have to remove your wiper cowling and hood to get easier access to it. It is pointed slightly to the drivers side and not straight up. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!!
