Happy New Year!

The truck threw a few codes on the way home from work tonight. I was accelerating heavily to merge with traffic on the Interstate when the light came on.

A total of four codes:
1. P0101
2. P0101 Pending
3. P0171 Too Lean; Bank 1
4. P0171 Too Lean; Bank 2

The truck is a 2003 Tahoe with the 5.7l. 147K miles.

It didn't seem to miss a beat. I seen reference to the MAP sensor being dirty. Any other potential causes?

Thanks!

I had similar codes on my 2002. It was running rough and getting crappy mileage. I took it to the dealership and they ended up changing plugs and wires, along with the fuel system/injector treatment.

Runs like a champ now :)

I think you mean 5.3 L motor...

I'd bet on intake gaskets for the lean code.

P0101 may be a result of the intake gaskets - but i'd clean the MAF Sensor too..

is start with the simple first.. clean the MAF then if it comes to it change plugs and work your way don't wanna just into something deep like gaskets if all you need is a MAF cleaning.. just my 2 cents

yep. 5.3 - don't know what I was thinking...

I'll clean the sensor and change the plugs & wires. I've had the truck for a few months now, and don't know when that was last done. Hasn't thrown the codes again, so maybe I'll get lucky.

Just in case you don't know, when cleaning the maf sensor don't touch it in any way. Just spray it with MAF cleaner from your local auto store and let air dry.

Hook up a scanner to the truck and watch how the o2 sensors react if you spray carb cleaner around the intake... Easy test.. I agree - don't just change parts to change em - but its a common issue with these trucks and with some testing you can figure if its the issue or not..

Well, it threw the codes again. So I cleaned the MAF sensor and changed the plugs and wires.

The MAF sensor did look a bit dirty, and there were what looked like pieces of leaves blocking a minor portion of it. The plugs looked like they haven't been changed in a long time.

My code reader doesn't display the sensor data, so I can't really watch the o2 sensors. If it throws the codes again I guess I'll do the gaskets.

Had similar problem on my 02 and cleaned the MAF and the codes kept on returning. Turned out to be the fuel pump which was replaced one day when my 02 died on me and has been running like a champ since with zero codes poppin on my dash.

Well, after cleaning the MAF sensor and replacing the plugs and wires the codes seem to be gone. I've put close to 1,000 miles on it since.

The MAF sensor had some crud on it. Looked like maybe leaves and dirt? I had replaced the air filter when I bought it, but did take note of the condition of the old filter.

The plugs were a bit iffy as well.

Thanks for everyone's input!
