has anyone figured out if the map lights need to be canbus in order to fully light up with pressing the button?

i have 04 tahoe i ordered 3 map lights. 2 canbus one regular. the canbus was brighter. get the canbus for the map lights, the rest can be regular. @Fosscore who posted before in this thread helped me out with it, pass him a like

My 03 was the same. Map lights were dim until I switched to Canbus.

Read through the thread and the info here is good! Lol. I did the led interior bulb swap as well. And I love them. Very bright, mine have a slight blueish hue which I personally like. I notice that when I click button for the map light, which is not very often, but it's super dim. But when it comes on with the dome light it's bright. I always wondered why they did that. I went with regular bulbs not the canbus. Now I know why haha.

I'm happy to report that at least in my 2000 GMC Yukon XL, that this is not a problem, and you don't need canbus LEDs for the map lights.

One problem I have found with converting the lights over to LEDs is finding 194 led bulbs that aren't too long to fit in the license plate light fixtures. The ones I got fit in all the locations that fit wedge base/194 except for the license plate.

@W8TVI , unfortunately in myn2006 that's the case. Stinkin electrical,stuff haha. The pack I ordered came with like 3 different sizes for all the different size sockets. Including license plate lights.

I haven't bothered to find new lights for it yet, so they are just using the stock incandescents.

I bought these and they fit perfect in the license plate housings.
