figured after all these years i might as well make me a build thread on my yukon. wasen't planning on doing much other than using it as a daily driver but i can't leave anything alone so mods happen. this thread will start off with mods i did years ago up until current. mods usually happen slow with this thing but i'd rather do things once and do em right with a well thought out plan instead of a bunch of crap thrown together.

Onto the mods. 03 yukon 4x4. 5.3l. big fan of exploring and camping and such so this is heading in a overland expo style build.

one of my first mods was a rear view camera. sooo nice for hooking up trailers

next few mods. 15% tint on the front doors. 32" bfg muds. 3 hella 500ff's with 100w bulbs

newest mod. baja rack cargo rack. ordered the optional light bar and hi-lift mount to go along with it. being that the rack is almost the exact width of the crossbar mounts i'm considering making custom brackets to bolt the rack down to lower it down slightly. should make it a little more solid too

lights are 55w 7's hids. two spots and two floods. sadly, one showed up d.o.a. have a replacement on the way. something i have to mod slightly is drill new mounting holes for the lights slightly back on the mounting tabs because the lights hit the bar and don't allow me to aim them down lower to be effective. sure do light up the tops of trees like daytime though. lol

were i ran my wiring up to em
010.jpg

that for the most part brings us up to date to the mods. future thoughts are an intake. something for mounting or carrying a full size spare. have a netting system picked out to strap everything down to the roof. just gotta order it. considering a cb set up. rolling around a few other random ideas past all that but not really settled on anything else

sorry all the pics are in one post. guess the forum is just set up so you can't make seperate posts right in a row

back up camera came from ebay. someone here posted a find a few years back on someone selling a ton of em for like $30 each. even came with mounting brackets to hold it in place of the pocket that used to be there in the dash.
flashlight holder is just a maglight brand holder. its like $5ish. flashlight is a 3d led mag

Very cool man, love the look and overall idea. I haven't seen to many other Michigan boys (or maybe I'm not paying attention). How is the wiring for your rack lights holding up under the weather stripping?

its holding up fine. its only been in there a week

got a few things done today. got a new light in today to replace the one that was out. kinda good and kinda bad on that. i plugged it in and saw the color was different so i opened it up and it was a 5k light instead of the 6k the others are. not too far off but enough that it bugs me. lol. so i popped open the other flood light to check the guts and see if i could see what was wrong with it and saw they were 35w hids instead of the 55w they were supposed to be. prolly order up a hid kit and just replace all the guts in a couple of em so they can all be the same 6k 55w lights i want. so basically right now i've got 2-55w 6k spots. a 55w 5k flood and a 35w 6k flood. i'll get this all straightened out and matching eventually

so since i had the light bar down to replace the light, i redrilled the mounting holes for the lights. the original holes mounted the lights too close to the bar so i couldn't aim them down far enough to be effective.

this is what i used to be able to be able to dismount my rack without cutting up any wires. theres 2 - 4 way trailer harness connectors. each one runs power/ground for two lights. if i need to pull the light bar off its just a quick unplug

012.jpg

next up on my list today was to mount some quickfists to mount my shovel. i went the quick easy hose clamp method for right now. i've got another mounting method i'm going to do soon once i find all the parts i need to do it. i would have been fine with this till i saw some random pics from someone online with an overkill type mounting bracket they made i'm going to steal the design of

009.jpg

the head of the shovel tucks up under the airdam in front to keep it out of the wind

0172.jpg

next, i picked up this lock to thread through the hi-lift for a little security. unfortunatly i don't like it once i played around with it. the locking mechanism seems pretty cheap and possibly prone to getting moisture in it which could freeze up in winter and make it next to impossble to unlock. kinda dissapointed since i expected better from masterlock. i think i'm just going to make my own cable in the next few days and use a weather resistant padlock

0192.jpg

after messing around with that stuff i had more on my list for the day. i recently lost a led drl due to a burnt out socket. replaced the socket and switched to amber leds this time around. still gotta replace the passenger side socket but i was getting lazy after everything else so i skipped it

Your Yukon looks great!

I ran across this thread post from a while back, very cool what you've done to your truck! I have an 02 Tahoe 4WD and an 02 Yukon 2WD. I would love to put bigger tires and wheels like yours on one or both of them. I see the wheels are 18x9 and the tires are 285/65/18, do they rub at all on deep turns? Did you do any other mods to it like give it a lift, etc to be able to get those bigger tires/wheels in there?
