Two questions. First 5.7 or 5.3 which is better/preferred? Second, what's the difference between LT LS and z71

In that era I would lean toward the 5.7 Vortec...longer stroke equals more torque and that's what moves these heavy trucks.

LT and LS are trim levels.Z-71 is an actual RPO-Option Code that depending on the year and model adds a list of off road goodies (heavier springs, shocks, sway bars, bushings as well as skid plates) to enhance performance and durability in off road situations.

thanks for the info much appreciated. im looking at an 04 with 140,000 miles truck is puff has 5.7 guy wants 5 grand for it. it was his wifes for the last 100,000 miles. ive seen some of theses trucks in the high 200's-300,000 miles. what do you think? which is better trim package LT or LS

Here's more detailed list to add on to what Yukon John as said that I found. Mine is an LS 2006 4.8L upgraded to leather and a friend has an LT 2005 5.3L. Can be slight differences here and there, but this should be a general guideline. Hope this helps a bit.

Think 06 was the only year you could get a 6L in the half ton. Those are like unicorns. 2500 you could get 6L or 8.1.
