Has anyone done it, what should i look out for, I have a 2003 LQ9 motor and i want to drop it into my 2004 Tahoe, do I use the electronics from the LQ9 or can i use the wiring harness and ecm from the 4.8 liter motor that is going to come out of the car, Im assuming i need to use everything that is on the LQ9 currently, intake, injectors, fuel rails, wiring harness, ECM.

Thanks for any help.

I just did the swap from a 5.3 to a Lq9....

I used all my stock wiring, Ecm, Fuel rails Intake etc. You should be in the same boat, as the 5.3 and 4.8 share the same stuff too. Was a fairly straight forward swap.. Do it! :)

Have to have the PCM Programed for the new motor.. thats all

I literally finished today

how much does it cost to have the ECM reprogrammed.

I had mine custom tuned with someone who uses HP Tuners. Cost me $300.00 but that was for a custom tune, they drive it, watch all the parameters etc. Also when i update my exhaust and headers it will be re-tuned for no costs.

There are a lot of ways you can do have it done.

It's a simple straight up swap. Assuming everything is good on the 6.0, you can just pull the 4.8 and drop the 6.0 in its place and just retune the pcm.

if i have the LQ9 ECM that came with the engine, should i just use it instead of having the 4.8 ECM custom tuned.

saves me 300.00 to 400.00

Better to have a tune you may have to since that motor/ecu combo has never been in the truck before. You'll need a crank relearn at the least, would be worth the loot to get a scan cable tune from blackbear and have justin send you a base tune to start. Would save you loot if unless you know someone with a tech II or some tuning software to do the crank relearn for you.

Nope need a tech II, HP tuners, or EFI live type tuning software.
