Well after minimal research I don't think I'm going to go for the esky swap. The difference in appearance to me is not worth the hassel of doing it myself. I scheduled an appointment with Safelight and with any luck they will come to my work and replace it Thursday after noon.

Is this fate telling me to do the Esky 3rd brake light? Guess I gotta go search @Rocket Man build until I come across the pages you did it on.

I don’t care for the NBS Esky third brake light myself so I didn’t do it. I opted for the rather rare 05-06 glass that did away with the plastic frame around the glass and has a wider top band, which I color matched and now will take to my buddy’s body shop because the paint doesn’t match perfect. BTW it takes all of 5 minutes to swap the glass, it only has 2 pins with clips that hold it on. Brand new glass is about $500 iirc. Used is about $100.

I might mess with it tonight and decide if I want to do it myself.
I was not aware that 05-06 had different glass I was kinda confused looking at your pics because I thought it was esky glass for some reason. That's what I get for not reading all the details.

Only SOME of the 05-06 had the different glass, that’s why I said it’s kind of rare. I want to say 10-20%. And there’s no way from looking at RPO codes to tell if a donor has it, you just have to specify “wide trim at top, no frame around glass”. There’s YouTube videos on changing the glass. You just open the main hatch and there’s 2pins with circlips on them- remove the circlips. Don’t lose them lol. (Which reminds me I need to order an assortment because I lost one) Close the main hatch and open the glass only then remove the shocks at the glass side. I remove one but leave it propping the glass up then remove the other one and swing it down out of the way so I don’t have to hold the glass up in the meantime, then go back to the first while holding up the glass and swing the shock down, then slide the glass 1/2” or do to the left until it slides off the pins. That’s it.

I found a pick and pull yard down town that has a tahoe that has/had the wide trim no frame glass. I guess I'll go down their this weekend and see if its still there. If not I'll likely grab whatever one that appears to be in good shape. Says its from a 2004 truck but you never know how accurate the information from junk yards is.

I think I have a universal set of those circlips at home. For some reason It looked much more complicated to remove the glass but you convinced me to watch a video and do it myself. Damn you! Sometimes its nice to just pay and not stress, but that's the way of the weak.

Picked up project crust caboose today. Finally found a low deck car hauler I could afford.

The to do list includes
-6' ramps
-Side boxes
-Drive over fenders
-Winch
-6x139 hub swap with PPV wheels
-Rust repair and paint
-Lights and wires

Should be all said and done at or under $1,500 including purchase price.

Well went looking for a window and found the "rare" style for $34! Also got esky rear trim piece thingys and I found a roof rack I'm going to go back and get tomorrow since I didn't bring torx bits. The trim pieces and rack need color matching but are in great shape I'm thrilled!

Struggled my arse off with the window because I went by myself and the truck that had the window I wanted was lifted 3 feet off the ground. I had to drag some wheels over, stack them up and do a balancing act all while sweaty my ballz off.
