2004 Escalade 6.0 throttle body cleaning

I tried cleaning the throttle body last night but I kept it on the truck. I figured I could put a weight on the pedal to open the butterfly valve but that didn't work. If I manually open it will I have to relearn the ecm?

Not if the truck is off. Wipe away the heavy stuff you can see. Wipe toward you then read your instructions on the can to make sure you can spray down the intake with it running or not.

I'd just take the whole thing off. Easier to access

Agreed^^^^. That’s what I do and have never had a problem. If you’re worried, disconnect the battery first.

With some good shop rags and throttle body cleaner you can do a pretty good job with it on the vehicle. Spray a good amount on the rags and also in the throttle body. It is easier for sure by taking it off the truck but I have found it isn't needed in most cases.
