I know. I know. But hear me out. My daughter has a 2004 Alero. I swapped out the aftermarket radio it came with(whole thing was crappy) and dropped in an unmatched GM radio(am/fm/cd/tape). I was able to get it to work, but now just shows CALIBRATE on the display. Goes away when you turn the radio on and honestly sounds better than the stock radio in my Fusion. Is a Tech 2 really the only way to fix this? I now own a TOPDON Pheonix Elite which removed the theft lock and can retrieve the calibration code I believe. I want to do something similar in my 04 suburban but need to resolve the calibrate issue first. Thanks fellas.

I believe that the radio needs to be programmed to the Vehicle's VIN, and for that you need a quality bi-directional scanner, like a Tech 2 or equivalent.
