2004 Z71 with 5.3 flex. Rough idle and worse in cold temps. Replaced MAF and it was somewhat better but Check Engine light remained. Cleared code and CEL stayed off for maybe 5 miles then back with a P0101 again. Idle was somewhat better - it starts and runs at 1000 RPM until I stop to let son out at school. Rough idle comes back and will even go dead a few times. Always runs fine at any driving speeds. Mileage has always sucked 14 avg. Sure would appreciate any suggestions.

Make sure there are no holes in the MAF tubing and make sure no problems with the electrical connector wire connections. Sometimes a pin pushes out of the connector instead of sliding together and clean the throttle body with carb cleaner and a clean rag. Where the throttle plate seats in the bore will build up crud and cause rough idle, hesitation and stalling.

I just had the same thing happen to me, and my CAI tube was loose at the throttle body

Is e CAI tube the black tube that runs along the bottom of the throttle body?
I cleaned my TB on sunday, but I only pulled it out far anough to access the back, I didn't want to mess with unhooking that tubing out in the cold. Ive got some rough idle , but it seems to be only occurring in park, when at a stop in drive doesn't seem as noticeable. could I have dislodged that tube.

I assume the CAI tube is the big black tube that all the air travels through between the air cleaner and throttle body? My '02 Denali has been throwing code P0101 for a couple months and I thought it was the TB or related. I read this thread today and decided to clean the MAF and install a new air cleaner. In the process I noticed the CAI tube was very loose at the MAF sensor. The clamp was almost all the way off. I just test drove it and I can't get it to throw the code. So far so good.

Thanks for the help. I'm not sure if it was the loose clamp or a dirty MAF sensor but it seems the problem is fixed. I can't get it to throw the code yet. That's great if it's fixed- that also caused it to go into "limp mode" sometimes, unable to rev over 1500 rpm...
