My gas gauge has quit reading correctly. From what I have read online it is the sending unit. I know to change this I will have to drop the gas tank. My question is if I can only replace the actual sending unit and not the whole pump/sending unit assembly? If so what is the part number? Also would appreciate any feedback on removal. Thank you.

if you haven't changed the pump seems like you might as well do that while you have the tank off or you'll be doing it again

If it is the sending unit, I'd just change out both as a unit. In my opinion, replacing both is worth not having to drop the tank twice! The issue could also be the stepper motor.

from what i have read that is not common as to what the issue is when the gauge is not working correctly. has anyone starter with replacing the stepper motor first and that fixed the issue?

You may as well just try the stepper motor first. It's one dollar and five minutes of your time.
If it doesn't help then you can go through the pain of dropping the tank and replacing the pump and sender.

Yes solder. Buy the kit on amazon or eBay, and do all your steppers or you'll be doing it again anyway
