2004 With Bose

I am running a Pioneer Avic F700BT in my 'hoe. You'll hear a lot of people complain about the F-series nav units, I personally have only found a few bugs with it. The voice commands are kind of a joke, half the time they do not work. I've just adapted to not using them. (Every once in a blue moon I'll try it when I'm driving alone, just to see if it works or not.) Bluetooth, it works okay for me, but I don't hear the phone ringing after I dial, only after the other end picks up do I hear anything.

Would I get it again? Probably not. Performance is fine for what I use it for, but there are a few features it's missing that I would have liked. The only reason I mention it is that the price point is pretty good. I got mine for about $700, which for a full nav is not bad. The F-Series has been replaced with the X-Series now, and Firmware update 3.0 for the F-Series basically turns it into an X-Series.

can you use your onstar? and the steering wheel controls?

I didn't install the adapter, so no OnStar. (I didn't want it anyway.) The adapters mentioned above will allow OnStar use to be retained.

I do have a PAC adapter to allow steering wheel control usage. The only button that does not line up 100% is the "speak" button. That actually mutes the radio instead of activating voice control, but I kinda like that setup this way.

Chamkila, i still have factory bose amps and speakers for now but here is my head unit and the accessories needed to run it all.. my wife drives this daily and she uses the nav quite a bit. i have found it to quite precise when it comes to turns and such....

The unit is a kenwood DNX5120 with the garmin navigation

Kenwood KCA-XM100V XM Adaptor and Audivox CNP-2000 MiniTuner
KCA-iP300V -- ipod adapter
KCA-BT200 -- bluetooth adapter
SWI-JACK interface for the steering wheel controls.

ok guys...........i know this is a very dumb questions...

but has anybody just removed there old factory system and simply installed a factory nav? or you have to do a lot of mods to get it to work.

I mean we there are sellers on ebay and other sites that are saying if you have the bose setup all you do is plug and play (only thing you have to do is get it cleared out of the dealer, the vin)

I did this upgrade.

If you have Y91 or Y92 in your RPO codes, then the easy install is a LUX nav.
If you do NOT have Y91 or Y92, then the easy install is a NON-LUX nav.

If you do NOT have Y91 or Y92, and want to upgrade to the LUX nav, then you need to purchase both a LUX nav and a LUX amp. (This is the route I took)

Whichever option you choose, you will still need:

GPS antenna
Dealer theft-unlocking (if it is a used unit)
Possibly installing *one* wire, which runs from the cluster over to the back of the radio. This is the VSS, or Vehicle Speed Sensor.
