We swapped the engine of our 2004 yukon and when we turn the key to start the vehicle, the radio comes on, lights on dash light up, headlights work, blinkers and wipers work, but the car won't start. It is like it's totally dead. We've tried jump starting it and have also tried the security reset and it's still the same thing.

A few other things since the swap:

While doing the security reset, the security light on the dash would come on, and the fuel gauge would go down, the light would go off and the gas gauge would go back up,

The blinker on the driver's side mirror blinks faintly for some reason.

The back wiper turns on even though the knob is in the off position.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. This has begun to cost a small fortune.

Thank you for your time.

To clarify: the engine does or does not crank with the starter?

If the engine cranks, but does not start, then there are different causes.

How long has the vehicle been out of service? Could there be a corroded ground connection under the hood? All wiring connections to the frame and body under the hood should be inspected for signs of corrosion, especially if the vehicle has sat outside with the hood off.

I would try a different battery, if you have a known good one. Sometimes a battery can seem to be OK and still cause problems.

Does the engine have it's main ground connection? Is it a clean connection?

Does the check engine light illuminate and stay on?

Is the engine from the same model year?

Are you using the same wiring harnesses that were on the old engine?

Thank you, retiredsparky for your help with this...

1) the engine nor the starter cranks or makes noise.
Has 9volts coming from the battery to the starter.
2)Vehicle has been out for about a month.
3) there is no corroded ground wire connections.
It does have the main ground wire connection and it looks good.

I have not tried using a completely different battery but have hooked up to try and jumpstart from another car.

4) I don't know if the check engine light stays on when you turn the key to the on position.
5) The engine is the same year and is a match to the vin number.
6) yes I used the same wiring harness from the old engine.

I appreciate your time!!

You should have 12 volts to the starter. But sounds like you have a ground problem also.

One problem I ran into when I did the intake a few years back, at the center back above the intake there is a small ground. Mine was unhooked and the truck wouldn't start. I would check that.

Using jumper cables on a weak battery may not provide enough power to crank an engine. Replace battery with a new battery or one from another vehicle.

sounds more like a bad/missing ground or burnt fuse/relay for the starter to not even spin over
