I have searched around a bit, maybe not well enough, but I have a few questions on the fuel pump and filter for a 2005 Yukon Denali.

1. Does the 2005 Yukon Denali have a serviceable fuel filter? If so, where is it located and what other years have the same configuration?

2. Fuel pump life span?? I deal with a lot of different car lines and some of them it is pretty clear that after 7-8 years you are on borrowed time with an electrical fuel pump. What seems to to be the average or safe time frame for the original fuel pumps in these vehicles? Is there an age when you can expect the fuel pump to give out? I like to be proactive on replacing some of the failure prone parts that can leave you stranded. I prefer to change a fuel pump on my schedule and not the vehicles schedule.

Thanks in advance for assistance and sorry if I missed this info somewhere.

The filter isn`t serviceable, It`s on the bottom of the fuel pump and is meant to last for the life of the pump.

How long they last is tough to answer. I`ve changed some pumps at 60-70k and i`ve seen some go 100k+.

Like you i always change parts before the manufacturer says to. My 05 yukon has 72,*** miles and i`m thinking it may be time to throw a new one in. Changing a pump before it dies is much better than being stranded and having a large tow bill.

Do they not have an in line filter? my 01 Denali has an in line filter on the frame rail.

IIRC, the LM7-engined (non-flexfuel) have the filter on the frame rail while the L59-engined (flexfuel) do not.

The LM7 uses a returnless system with remote regulator (only one line running to the engine fuel rails) while the L59 uses a regular return-line system with pressure regulator on the fuel rail.

Thanks for the responses. I have searched a bit and it was unclear with the 2005 and it may have had an in tank/non serviceable fuel filter.

I will crawl up under the trunk in the next few days and see if I can find anything on the frame rail.

I deal with a lot of German cars and they have very fine paper filters that can clog up in as few as 40-50k miles. Usually a lot of black sediment comes out of the filters. Seems the tanks are always clean and the black stuff that makes if past the in tank strainer would likely pass through the injectors anyway??

I also am trying to figure out if I should just replace the fuel pump/filter as PM so I do not get stranded due to a fuel pump. Always seems your pumps die with a full tank of fuel!
